EA must be overjoyed with the amount of success they have been having with their latest release Battlefield 3, having shifted more than 10 million copies in less than a week of it being available. This makes it the biggest release of the year so far, taking the crown from their previous release, FIFA 12. In their excitement the company has revealed some new screenshots for the upcoming Back to Karkand DLC.

The DLC is not due to be available until sometime in December and those that pre-ordered Battlefield 3 will be entitled to it as soon as it’s available for no extra cost. It is an expansion pack that features four classic maps from the Battlefield series, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island and Strike at Karkand. DICE claims the four maps have been played for ‘about 25,000 man years’ altogether. The developers have remastered the maps using there Frostbite 2 game engine technology so as to offer the same destructive special effects and visual realism that you get from Battlefield 3.

The DLC pack also features a new persistence system where players earn rewards for completing assignments, as well as ten legendary weapons from the Battlefield series, which we previously revelaed, three new vehicles; the F-358B STOVL jet fighter, BTR-90 armored personnel carrier and the desert patrol vehicle, five new achievement trophies and five new dog tags.

Niklas Fegraeus, Lead Designer of the Back to Karkand DLC claims that ‘from the perspective of scope and ambition’ this year’s DLC is very similar to the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam add-on from last year. He also says that this year’s DLC ‘is no simple map pack.’ There are more details about the DLC that are yet to come, like the actual release date and pricing, which as soon as we find out we will let you know. In the meantime head on over to Gamepur where you will find the rest of the new screenshots. Will you be getting the Back to Karkand DLC?
