As most of you will know by now, Battlefield 3 is about to be released in the UK on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The game got was release in the US today, some fans turned up to stores dressed in full military uniform for the midnight launch. Now the first details of the midnight launch for UK gamers have emerged.

The FPS is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year and will be challenging the mighty Call of Duty for the best FPS of the year when Modern Warfare 3 launches soon after. Despite the predicted success for the game, analysts believe MW3 will still come out on top, predicted to outsell the EA game 2 – 1. Yesterday we brought you news of some HD pack screenshot comparisons from Battlefield 3 which revealed the significant difference in image quality on the Xbox 360 version of the game when the pack was not installed.

The details that have emerged today about the UK midnight release involve Gamestation and GAME stores. A list of participating branches from all over the country and their plans has been revealed. The stores taking part will be opening at 11:45 Thursday night with some scheduled to open even earlier just to talk to the many expected to be waiting in the queues and for trade-ins as opposed to general sale trade due to the tills being closed until midnight, this means Battlefield 3 itself will not be sold until Friday officially begins.

The biggest launch of the year so far is FIFA 12 and when that got a midnight launch the person who was lucky enough to first in the queue at the Oxford Street GAME store in London, was given a free LG 3D LED TV. Nothing like that has emerged for the Battlefield 3 midnight launch as of yet, although according to MCV, The Gadget Show’s Jason Bradbury will be hosting proceedings at the Oxford Street store. The lists of participating stores can be found at Gamestation and GAME by clicking the links above. Will you be picking up your copy of the game at midnight on Friday?

Almost everyone in the UK who pre-ordered through Origin has been able (or has been) to play since monday (24th) night, when Korea hit midnight.

I for one have since 9pm monday night been able to log into Battlelog and join any server and play the campaign as well.  Co-op doesnt seem to be working yet.

It’s a super simple VPN/proxy technique in windows, via internet options in the control panel and knowledge of certain IP address and port number, requiring no software, which bypasses the activation in Origin, by tricking it to think you’re in Korea. It activates, and you turn the proxy off in internet options straight away.  Your ping returns to normal and you can connect to any server with your UK connection.

Sucks for anyone who wants it on consoles or have ordered the PC version from a store.

What’s perfect is that EA DICE have confirmed anyone using the VPN/proxy technique will NOT be banned, and stats will not be reset on the UK’s friday release.

They said it’s fine if you bypass the release date, but they would rather you didnt as it gives their tech team(s) a headache.

Uh-huh.  Wonder how many gamers and people who cant wait for the game to come out are going to listen to them…
