iOS 5 Gevey Pro / Turbo SIM unlock: iPhone 4 getting signal loss?

By Updated on

If you are looking to unlock your iPhone 4 running Apple’s latest iOS 5 software and have considered going down the Gevey Pro or Gevey Turbo SIM unlock, we have a potential word of warning for you, as there may be a big problem associated with it.

For those of you that are unaware, the Gevey SIM provides an option for users to quickly unlock their iPhone 4 devices, without the need of installing any jailbreak method – one of the main reasons why it is becoming very popular with consumers.

However, there looks to be a signal problem affecting the iPhone 4 after unlocking the device using the Gevey SIM. One report over at iPhone4jailbreaks tells the account of one user after he attempted to unock his device:

“After jailbreaking my iphone 4 on iOS 5 custom IPSW using Redsn0w. and after unlocking I have noticed that my cellular signal depleted drastically. I never get a full bar. Is this normal? thanks”

If you are experiencing low signal bars on your iPhone 4, then you’ll be pleased to know that there does appear to be an instant fix. To solve the problem, you’ll need to install version 1.2.4 of Ultrasn0w – if you need help doing this, there’s also a tutorial listed through the link to iPhone4jailbreaks above.

If you are at the first stage of attempting to use the Gevey SIM iPhone 4 unlock, you may find this quick-fire guide helpful. Failing that, we would just recommend you hold out from using the Gevey SIM unlock method altogether on iOS 5 – especially if the signal loss bug becomes more apparent.

Jailbreaking your device and using Ultrasn0w seems to be a much safer way these days, as most of you will agree. If you have unlocked your iPhone 4 using the Gevey Pro or Gevey SIM unlock, let us know what your signal is like on your phone at the moment – having problems or is everything fine?

I have never had a signal problem with Gevey SIM unlock.  Currently in China running 4.1.something on my iPhone. I’m Wanting to update to OS5, but don’t want to lose my phone.  So far so good though, will the update effect the SIM method?
