Skill with FIFA 12 tricks and controls 2 weeks on

Before FIFA 12 released fans had a little play with the demo and could get a feel for the game, in our quick hands-on we noticed, like many other players, that the tackling had dramatically changed and made the game a lot harder, although this is how it seemed at first.

Since that date we could see that FIFA 12 is about evolution, and had taken a big step forward towards football game perfection. The new player impact engine improved the game a lot, although it did have funny glitches with some of these being fixed since a patch went live.

EA Sports has blown away the competition once again, and the early sales have proven this. Now that we’re around 2 weeks on since the full game released, we wanted to revisit the early opinions and see how our readers are getting on with the FIFA 12 tricks and controls.

We’ve reviewed the game for many hours and taken a lot of feedback from FIFA players, and what seems like really awkward tackling at first soon becomes really easy, which is helped by a little patience. When most players start out and try to use the circle button (PS3) or B button (Xbox 360), it’s easy to get impatient and start tapping away, either too early or late, which doesn’t help matters.

Some players struggle to create chances and get in behind defenders, and are quick to say “they should have left the tackling the way it was before”. Pressing the buttons for no reason will always get you caught out, and while the controls are pretty easy to use, you’ll find them harder to master.

When you’re more patient the other player gets increasing aggressive, then using a mix of running jockey, circle button (PS3), and the push and pull technique will make things much easier. The video below this article shows you how to do this visually, and how great teamwork tackling is by switching to another player with right stick. Watch the FIFA 12 tackling tutorial below to see what we mean.

What amazed us most is that some FIFA 12 players never even watch the in-game tips, which really helps to get you started and less frustrated. The most important lesson we learned in the new game is to be patience, and wait for opportunities to create something, which has made FIFA 12 a more realistic game than FIFA 11’s auto tackling.
