iPhone 4S design tweak may stop cases fitting

If you have pre-ordered your iPhone 4S and hope to slip it straight into your old iPhone 4 case we have something important to show you, Apple has very slightly relocated the hold button along with the volume up/down buttons on the 5th-gen offering.

The good news is that the majority of cases should not have a problem with this slight design tweak, however if you check out the image below you will see that the hold button has moved a cross by a couple of millimetres, also there is a tiny difference if you look at the volume button location. This probably has a lot to do with the upgraded internals inside. The source for out article, Android-Sale, suggests that people MUST buy a new case for the iPhone 4S, but we don’t agree with this entirely.

We guess you will just have to try out your iPhone 4 case on your iPhone 4S to see if it fits, quite often case manufacturers give their cases a few millimetres of extra space for these buttons, we just hope that the camera on the rear hasn’t been relocated as well, if so we think it’s going to best to buy a new case specifically designed for the iPhone 4S.

The image below was taken from our Cygnett Frost Matte iPhone 4 case review, as you can see the cutouts for the hold button, volume buttons and camera are quite snug, so we think that quite a lot of people may have to carefully “mod” their iPhone 4 cases to fit the iPhone 4S.

We would love to hear from you once you get your iPhone 4S, let us know whether your iPhone 4 cases fitted in the comments section below.
