We have just informed you about a ‘secret’ live video stream that Apple are providing for the ‘Let’s Talk iPhone’ event which is just hours away, but now we have some juicy last minute rumors which suggest that the upcoming iPhone 5 will not have support for 4G connectivity.
Obviously this is a huge blow for all three carriers in the US if this turns out to be true – yes we’re including Sprint on this one since it almost seems inevitable that they’ll be getting in on the iPhone love too.
The information comes straight from a fresh update from the Wall Street Journal, who are claiming that the new iPhone will not have support for either LTE 4G data or Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network as well. That means that the fifth-generation iPhone could launch with support for existing 3G networks only, and although some consumers expected this, we think that a lot of you will be disappointed if this becomes a reality.
There had been rumors for months that the iPhone would at least support 4G WiMAX on Sprint’s network, and it is this network that is most likely to suffer if this turns out to be true. Why do we say that you wonder? Well, the majority of Sprint’s smartphone launches all support 4G WiMAX data and as mighty as an iPhone on Sprint would be, it would serve as a huge below for Sprint customers if they found out they would only be able to utilize 3G data instead of 4G.
Still though, the very existance of an iPhone on Sprint may be sufficient for others so this is definitely isn’t an ‘end of the world’ scenario here. If you are a Sprint fan, or indeed an AT&T or Verizon subscriber reading this, give us your thoughts on the possibility of an iPhone 5 without 4G data support.
