All eyes may be on Apple’s upcoming October 4th event in which the company are expected to unveil the iPhone 5 and other delights, but it looks like Google are fighting back with a huge event of their own. It’s called Mobile Unpacked 2011 and will be starting on October 11, just days after Apple’s event.
The search giant has begun sending out invitations to the event via email, which will be held in San Francisco – apparently the place where the all the smartphone gossip goes down. But anyway, Google dropped a hint on their invitation flyer that they will be looking at what is new with Android, as reported from Techcrunch.
Just like Apple’s coded ‘Let’s talk about the iPhone’ message, it is fairly likely that Google will use the event to unveil Ice Cream Sandwich, and maybe even the Nexus Prime smartphone too, rumored to be the first handset to support the new software of course. Considering that Samsung are also partnering with Google for the event, it provides further hints about a possible Nexus Prime debut, since it has become common knowledge that Samsung will be following up from the Nexus S with Google’s next smartphone too.
A perfect scenario for us and indeed Android fans around the world would be the full unveilings of both Ice Cream Sandwich and the Nexus Prime or Galaxy Nexus. It would definitely send a message and to Apple and kick off considerable excitement if Google drop solid release dates for both. Again we could be getting ahead of ourselves here, but it makes perfect sense for Google to do so, especially after Apple’s event in which consumers are likely to be pumped up over the iPhone 5 announcement.
What are your expectations from the event – do you expect to see the Nexus Prime in all its glory, or do you think Google will keep up waiting further?
