As we build up towards the inevitable announcement of the highly anticipated iPhone 5 smartphone, we have some very interesting rumors to share with you, solid rumors indeed in relation to a brand new voice-control feature that is meant to be a key part of the new software featured on the device.
That new voice-control feature is thought to be titled ‘Assistant’, and it will be Apple’s brand new take on voice-controls according to an exclusive insight reported over at 9to5Mac. They are claiming that Assistant will be compatible with the majority of apps available on the iPhone 5, which includes tasks such as sending a text message, asking for directions and making an appointment – all of which apparently can be activated solely using voice-controls.
Apple’s new venture into voice-controls is meant to be a result of their recent acquisition of Siri and if it works as mentioned above, Apple may be on to yet another innovative stroke of genius, and could see Assistant used on a daily basis with instant adopters.
It’s not all good news however, as the report over at 9to5Mac reveals that Assistant requires the hardware specifications (dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM) featured within the iPhone 5 to operate, meaning that it will not be compatible with the iPhone 4 or 3GS, a mean tactic indeed from Apple if this turns out to be true.
As far as we know, we’re yet to see this close level of integeration for voice control on any smartphone so far, so it’s going be interesting to see how Apple manages to woo consumers with it, as the technology itself is nothing new. Then again, Apple are experts of converting regular features and putting their own unique spin on it – look at Facetime and the soon to release iMessage for example.
