Just over a week ago we told you about RIMs plans to reduce prices for its BlackBerry PlayBook, as the company had been left with a bigger inventory of the device as they expected. This comes as much of the competition to the iPad have struggled to make an impact on the tablet market. Earlier today we brought you the news that images of a new Motorola Xoom had emerged, as the original hasn’t exactly been a major success. No we have news that the BlackBerry PlayBook price cuts begin, so are you tempted?

Over in Canada Staples, Best Buy and its sister outlet the Future Shop has slashed $200 off the asking price for the device. According to Electronista Best Buy and Future Shop will give customers a gift card if the tablet PC is brought in store, but all of the stores will give the discount straight away if the PlayBook is purchased online.

With Best Buy and Future Shop the discount is down to end on October 6th, but there is no end date at the Staples retail chain. There is talk that Walmart may be going to offer the PlayBook for even less, as one person is claiming to have got it for only $250. The pricing is still showing the device for $500 so we will have to wait and see.

Currently US stores have yet to show their hand with price cuts for the device, but as RIM has huge stock piles of the device it won’t be long for prices get cut around the world. The PlayBook was fighting a losing battle since it was first released, as not only was it the same price as the iPad 2 it had many important features missing from the device.

Things like native email and the BlackBerry Messenger are due to be added to the operating system soon, and with the ability to use Android Apps also coming it may see the PlayBooks popularity improve. Are these price cuts big enough to make you think about the BlackBerry PlayBook?

Absolutely yes! I was waiting for a bit of a price drop, and this is great news. I got one as soon as I found out.
Great hardware, and continuing software support those things that are currently missing (native email, andoid apps, etc) make the Playbook for this price unbeatable.

Not even the price cut, frankly speaking… Playbook is just few days away from being delivered to me, and I need to say it’s the ecosystem maturation which mattered. Specs and QNX made this device top notch; 7inch size made it even better. This product is simply worth its price!
