There has been talk of Amazon bringing out a tablet to the market for a while now, with many believing that if the pricing is right we will finally have a worthy competitor to Apple. Now today we have news that Amazon’s iPad rival could be revealed next week.
The much talked about Amazon Tablet that is thought to be a next generation Kindle, but with a 7-inch display and capacitive touchscreen may be shown to the world at a press event. PCMag are reporting that the retail giant has sent out invitations to a press event in New York for Wednesday September 28th.
It doesn’t go in to details and just gives a date and start time, but previous press events at the venue have been to announce a new Kindle so it could be for the new tablet. To succeed the device will have to do things differently to what other manufacturers have so far done.
First of all the operating system has to work, but more importantly the pricing of the device is crucial. We have already seen the likes of the BlackBerry PlayBook and even more so the HP TouchPad dropped in price. The latter sold bucket loads when the unit was discontinued and the price was massively slashed, but before this it hardly sold.
Amazon has some experience with this though with the Kindle, as when they have dropped the price it has always seen a sales spike. If Amazon can price the new tablet around the $300 mark it could sell really well. As with the Kindle eReader the retailer makes its money up by selling digital content, and would see more consumers sign up for Amazon Prime.
Owners will buy Android applications and store more content on Amazon Cloud, and may use it to buy physical goods from the retailer as well. Do you think the Amazon Tablet could be a success?
