Skyrim PS3 graphics almost identical to PC, instant win for fans

We have some pleasing news for those of you planning to pick up the PlayStation 3 version of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, as Bethesda has offered a clear sign that the graphics for the PS3 version at least will not be too similar to those seen on PC – widely thought to be the lead platform.

Just like our previous report which told you about the addition of child NPC characters in Skyrim, Bethesda’s Pete Hines has once again used his Twitter account to dish up some more juicy information on Skyrim that hasn’t been reported anywhere else.

His latest comments will be seen as a pretty big deal for PS3 owners though, especially for those fearing that the company would prioritize the PC version over consoles. The good news is that doesn’t look to be the case for the PS3 version of the game, as his recent statement suggests below:

“Watched Todd play Skyrim for quite a while. Had no idea he was playing PS3 version until he held up controller. So PS3 owners, don’t fret.”

Considering that Skyrim looks stunning so far and is likely to be optimized even further on PC, this is fantastic news that the PS3 is going to look very similar, going on Pete’s word. We expect the Xbox 360 version to be right up there as well in terms of visuals, so it really is looking promising on the graphical side of things. Could we say that the PS3 graphics are going to be on par with the PC? – Probably not, as those with a high-end PC will really be able to tell the difference between the two, but as long as it looks similar to the gameplay that Bethesda has been showcasing over the last few weeks – we definitely won’t complain.

Your are correct that’s why consoles are holding back the pc from being where it should be in terms of visuals, one developer showing love for pc is DICE which will make console owners wish they had a decent pc, in terms of graphics and multiplayer player count 64 players will be the ultimate gaming experience!

As far as I know, this footage is actually from X360. On a proper PC it should look even better though

Although that being said, the 360 visuals do look gorgeous. However, I’ve noticed in the gameplay footage some rather odd shadow inconsistencies, like no shadows on grass, and some shifting and pixelating shadows. I’m sure PC owners won’t be having quite as many of those issues.

PC sucks. playing that on a controller and keyboard is horrible. i dont care if pc games have better graphics im a console gamer and this game looks incredible on 360 / ps3 for the people going on about skyrim on the pc get a life

Erm….. You are aware that there and hundreds of controllers available to use on a PC, including the Xbox 360 controller yes?
And of course, plugging in a PC to a big TV is just as easy as a console – HDMI cable, bam.
The only reason to be a console gamer is if you are poor. I don’t mean that to sound insulting, it’s just the truth. Consoles are the cheaper, “budget” version. PCs can do everything consoles can, but better.

When did anyone fear this? since when has ANY company prioritized the PC over the console? (other than with Deus Ex: HR, they even stated the PC would be better). The interface is developed with consoles in mind, the 360 players are getting the DLC before the other users etc.
I have a feeling that buying a 360 controller for your pc is going to be nessesary if you want to get the best experience.

Where did Pete say the PS3 graphics were as good as the PC? His comment is ambiguous. He could have thought that Todd was playing the 360 and then realized it was the PS3.

The article is nonsense. 100% bogus reporting. Completely incorrect.
Pete was saying he couldn’t tell the difference between the PS3 version and the Xbox. He was NOT referring to PC, because the PC version DOES look noticeably better. Todd himself confirmed the better antialiasing and higher resolution textures for PC.
Furthermore, no one was “concerned” the game would be optimized for PC, because PC players are always ignored. Skyrim has from the beginning been 360 optimized, and Bethesda have no problems admitting that.
What a joke article this is…. Just astounding.

I guess authors have no problem outright lying in their articles now. No one ever thought that PC was the lead platform for Skyrim…Bethesda outright stated a long time ago that it was being developed on the XBox 360, the only major AAA title this year with PC as the lead platform is Battlefield 3.
Also, like one of the users stated below me, the person you are talking about in the article was referencing the XBox, not the PC. He was saying he couldn’t see a difference between the XBox 360 and the PS3′s performance, and he admitted that the PC version did in fact look a little better (high res textures, AA, etc).
Please do your research before submitting an article, though since this I’m guessing this is an editorial or opinion article you don’t really have to.

Dont know what the fuss is all about! Doubt anyone, on any platform is going to disapointed with how the game looks. However i’m glad knowing for a fact that the game is going to run seamlessly and 99% crash free on my playstation. Ive no doubt that the pc version has the potential to look better than the consoles but i remember all the fussing i did with morrowinds graphics settings back in the day, these days i just want to play the game!

I don’t think this article is supposed to be about the graphics, more about the fact that hardly any news regarding the PS3 release has been released. I think Todd was more saying that PS3 owners shouldn’t fret, the PS3 version of Skyrim is actually existing?

I know this has already been said, but seriously how do you mess up an article this bad? First off, we all know the PC version is going to look better, it’s a more flexible, powerful platform. it’s a given. Secondly, he was referring to the fact there is a ps3 version because only the 360 has been demoed thusfar. they will NOT be demoing on the PC at all. Also there was no mention of the graphics, but I imagine the two consoles look about the same, ps3 having slightly more draw distance/higher res textures, 360 having less “screen tearing” and artifactc (just my assumption)
