If you keep a close eye to technology you have probably noticed that Microsoft has began promoting Windows 8, now we can confirm that developers looking to get some early hands on time with the next-gen operating system can download the Windows 8 developer preview.
As it is very early days for Windows 8 you must be aware that the operating system may be far-from perfect, however if you understand this you can download the version you prefer via the links below (click on them to start the download).
Download sizes are reasonably large (2.8GB, 3.6GB and 4.8GB from top to bottom), as you would expect Microsoft has clearly stated that the software may not be stable or anything like the final build – once downloaded you will have to burn the file to a DVD, or if you know how put on a bootable USB flash drive. If you opt for the build with the developer tools you will have to carry out a fresh install, however the oher two builds will allow you to upgrade from Win XP, Win Vista or Win 7 – check out this link for more details and please back up important files before carrying out an installation.
If you are worried that your hardware won’t run Windows 8, think again, these developer previews are said to run great on the same hardware which Windows Vista and Windows 7 requires. For x86 (32-bit) you need at least a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, as for x64 (64-bit) you need a 1GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 20GB of storage (obviously better than this is recommended. No matter what version you install you will need a DirectX 9 compliant GPU with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver and if you plan on using multi-touch you need either a touchpad or touchscreen display which supports this.
