There has been growing reports recently concerning the next update to the Windows Phone 7 operating system. We have heard of new handsets being revealed that will be carrying the software, and also speculation of some manufacturers using the update to challenge the iPhone 5 release. Today we have news that the Windows Phone 7 Mango update could land this week.
The latest update to the Windows operating system has been in the hands of phone manufacturers for a while now, and Microsoft has been accepting applications from developers since the end of last month. Now according to Electronista the much anticipated update could be available as this week.
The new update to the operating system is thought to provide Microsoft with the tools to take on Apple’s iOS and the Android platforms. When Windows Phone 7 was first released it was well received in some quarters, but it had a lot of ground to make up on its rivals. It also suffered from low application numbers as well as features to the OS itself.
Now the Mango update looks to address this issue with a host of new features coming to the platform. There will be full multitasking, improved email management with multiple accounts, Wi-Fi hotspot function, and voice to text option. Speed and stability are also set to be improved along with other improvements.
Nokia will also be hoping the Windows Phone 7 Mango update proves to be successful, as the Finnish company is pinning its hopes on the platform to turnaround its flagging fortunes. It will still use its Symbian OS for its feature handsets, Windows Phone 7 will be used for its future smartphone devices.
Hopefully as Nokia and other manufacturers bring out desirable handsets for the platform, Windows Phone 7 can be a worthy competitor to Android and iOS. This will mean consumers get more choice, which must be only a good thing.
Will you now consider Windows Phone 7 after the Mango update?
