Apple TV 3rd generation: Wish list before release date

By Updated on

With expectations leaning towards a jump in sales for Apple TV, which should come after the iPhone 5 release, it may not be so simple especially with the negative views of some people, who do have valid points on missing features.

The reason why a certain number of new sales will be generated once the iPhone 5 is released is because of the better integration of the two Apple devices, especially when it comes to streaming video and games from the iPhone to an Apple TV, although this will not be enough for some people.

We’ve had a little feedback from our readers about some of their issues with the current setup, which include lack of codec support and the ability to support 1080p. Some people point to the Boxeebox and its support for Airplay to work with an iPad, add to this many supported features not on Apple TV and it’s a tempting alternative. What do you think the 2nd gen Apple TV lacks?

Soon iOS 5 will release the Apple TV into a type of gaming console with support for iPad streaming, and gaming apps would also increase Apple’s chances of connecting with those that want apps on the big screen, which would be a lot better than current TV offerings.

This leads us to the Apple TV 3rd generation, although it was a few years between the first and second generations. The release date may be some time away but we’d love to here your wish list for Apple TV 3? What hardware changes should be made and what features can be added to attract people in much bigger numbers.

Update: Some reports are claiming that the Apple TV 3rd gen could get unveiled in 2011, we’re doubtful but will update you as we get more.

1080p; but most importantly: Connect to media on a NAS, especially if the NAS has iTunes built in. No iTunes on a PC as a middleman. Only then would I buy 3 units for my home. Support Component Video (doubtful).

1080p support, multiple audio supports other than current AAC, It would be nice to have AC3 support for actual surround sound if not dolby Hd or other high bit audio containers. Also a NAS connectivity support for streaming files from that mac pro in the basement to all the Tv’s in the house
