Droid Incredible Gingerbread update problems reported

By Updated on

Recently we told you all of the great new features and improvements which the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update brought to the Verizon Droid Incredible, however we are hearing some from of our readers that things aren’t going quite as smoothly as planned – in fact we are hearing of quite a few issues affecting different people, some of them are reoccurring problems.

Let’s start with an annoyance which we have received multiple reports of, apparently after installing the update people receive constant error messages which tell you that the Incredible is “Low On Space”, people didn’t experience this prior to today and it comes up on devices which have plenty of free space (update: we are told that this is a known problem which has affected the Droid Incredible for a long time).

There are lots of app-related problems which we are hearing about, apparently since installing Android 2.3 multiple apps disappeared from some handsets, whilst other people saw app icons change to the Android Market icon, some people say that unmounting then remounting the SD card fixed problems which affected apps which were installed to the memory card, we are also hearing that both Gmail and Yahoo! Mail apps aren’t working as well as they used to be.

Two people have suggested that since installing the update they have experienced WiFi connectivity issues, we don’t know why this is and it seems to be a relatively isolated issue, our only guess is that you might have to completely remove the wireless connection profile and reconnect from scratch – did you manage to overcome this issue?

We are not sure how widespread problems are therefore we have setup a simple poll below to get some feedback from our readers – please take time to submit your vote. Also if you are experiencing problems post update describe them in detail in the comments section.

“phone low on space” error, sometimes “must clear 512kb of memory to receive messages” error and I never had either errors before update.  Have to unmount and remount SD card after every restart to use all of my apps, connectivity issue’s, calendar syncing issue’s.  They pretty much dropped the ball on this one!

I don’t have the update yet, and I’ve been having this problem for months… I was actually hoping the update would fix it. My understanding is that the problem has to do with the small amount of space allocated to the “applications” part of the file system.

    This was me.
By the end of the day it had totally failed and required a factory reset (Verizon Tier 2 rep’s instructions)

Even the factory reset would not restore it.
Now they are trying to get me to buy a new phone and renew my 2 year contract.
If i’m going to do that it will NOT be with Verizon.
This is a problem they caused. It’s not as if I dropped my phone in the bathtub

My phone is pretty useless at times now. It won’t let me lock or unlock my phone most of the time and is telling me that my charger isn’t compatible with my phone. It never gave me this message until today, it’s telling me to use my factory given charger, which it is the factory charger. I loved my problem-free phone before, but now I absolutely hate it with this update, its useless. Many of my apps have disappeared or will no longer open. This update was a total fail for my device. I’m worried my phone will soon fail on me. Ridiculous.

I have all your same problems. My verizon car charger gives me the the error too,,,,wtf. Gingerbread turned into Ginger-sped.

My Droid incredible still hasn’t received news that there is a new update…when is it supposed to come to my phone?

  • James

I had the storage low error. Then it said I needed to delete stuff or it would allow me to message. Now i can’t receive messages. Brought it to my verizon guy and he brought it back to factory settings. Still doesn’t receive texts. Awesome…

  • Tanicide

I started out receiving the low storage error, then emails stopped appearing on the phone, then it gave itself a factor reset…

stopping and clearing data for HTC Sense has temporarily solved the problem, we’ll see if it lasts

I’ve had multiple problems with the update. My phone does say that my storage space is low, my SD card apps have disappeared (I unmounted and remounted but it didn’t help), I cam still send picture messages, but the people I send them to have to ‘download’ them but then get an error message saying it was unable to download. Also the phone seems to be working slower, typing in the internet browser is more difficult to do. IS THERE ANYWAY TO GET RID OF THE UPDATE AND GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS VERSION????

I’m having all the problems already discussed! As of yesterday, I cannot receive any text messages. Apparently, I can send them, I think, but I can’t receive any. I had the phone storage issue, the charger issue, the app issue and the mail sync issue. Please tell me what I’m paying for?? I called Verizon last night and they told me that it’s a software issue and they’re working on it, but have no projection about when it will be fixed…maybe a few days.

Since the update I have absolutely no cell service at my home. Before it was at least two bars. Dialed *228 several times and pulled battery once. Service still crappy.

WTF, is Verizon going to fix this problem??? My Droid Incredible is now useless as a smartphone, no txting, sync’d emails are fried, apps are all fragged, internet doesnt connect, weather doesn’t update nor does the time and date, WTFF!!!!

I drive for a living, so the ..voice to text.. while driving glitch is killing me. It used to work great at detecting my voice, even with the radio on and Windows open. Now it doesn’t work with Windows closed and radio off as long as the car is moving. This update has made responding to texts from my dispatcher very dangerous and annoying, where it used to be so easy to just answer them by voice, and as I also need to enter new addresses into my navigator all day long I’d really appreciate it if you could fix this glitch.

My WiFi internet connection stops working and I have to turn off the wifi and let it connect using the 3g network before turning the WiFi back on.

I am also having the issues with the icons on my SD card.

But for me the biggest issue since the update, has been the inability to use my voice search while in a moving car.

Now I’m getting a low on space warning, when I have plenty of space. I hope someone’s actually trying to fix our phones and not just expecting us incredible users to upgrade to newer more expensive phone. That’s how I was forced to move to my current phone, when my old L G was “upgraded” to the point of not working any more.

Got the low space message although there was lots of memory on the phone and could not get messages or voicemail.  Deleted lots of apps (unnecessarily) and finally got that cleared up.  Was able to send text messages but hve not been able to receive them.  Went to Verizon where they wiped the phone and did factory reset and the problem still persisted.  Salesperson told me that I could just buy a new phone. Got home called Verizon customer service and told them the problem before being transferred to tech support. Explained problem and was told that they were aware of the problems from the update.  Within a few mniutes I was told that a Incredible 2 will be sent to me and all I paid for was overnight shipping. It’s their fault so be persistent until they make it right. Good luck.

I called and all they did was send me a replacement (refurbished) Incredible under Warranty that was pre-updated with the latest software in working order…

      • Guest

Wow, just wow, so I got my ‘replacement’ phone today from Verizon, I activated it and started to resync it with my gmail and contacts and Facebook. First thing I noticed was the Facebook app was all fucked up so I went to the market to update it. While I was there other applications started to automatically update and download, well they never downloaded and just stayed stuck in an endless download loop to where I could not cancel them. I decided to check the software and found that it wasn’t even running the latest revision 2.3.4 like they “assured” me it would be. So I called customer service and was advised to do a factory reset and that should kick start the software update and should correct the application errors. The factory reset accomplished nothing but resetting it to an even earlier version of software… lol

I did a second reset to see if maybe I did something wrong but still nothing got fixed so I called customer service back and Tech Support walked me through several troubleshooting ideas which only made things worse as now my phone has no network connection available any longer… lmfao wtf

They are shipping me out a second replacement phone now, let’s see how this turns out now…

I just got the update notification tonight. Did it. A lot of my apps disappeared… replaced with the android market icon on homescreens and in ‘manage applications’. tried removing/reinserting sd card. didn’t help. updated one application, it worked and all my data was still there, then i tried restarting the phone and now the apps dont even show up in memory. I also was forced back to HTC sense launcher (i use launcherpro) and had to download homeswitcher to fix it. This is a terrible night for my favor with android devices

  • Fastboy177

well just tried unmounting/remounting SD. all my apps are back but cannot set launcher pro as default home.

  • Tony Stark

Yup all apps on SD are the android market logo, Amazon app.venezia keeps force closing along with palringo and others. The apps are still on my SD and work on my other phone….what gives…

Got mine this morning. Killed all my apps on my SD card.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MZHXFT6DSYIU7MJKJH2VFOHQDQ None

      1. Settings -> SD Card -> Unmount
      2. Wait for it to full unmount, you’ll get a message saying it has.
      3. Restart the phone, remount the card
      4. Give it a bit to fully come back to terms with itself and the Apps should be back.

Just unmounting and remounting didn’t work for me for some reason. Had to restart it while unmounted as well.

  • Grrrr Verizon Grrrr

So the first update made about half of my apps on my sd card say they werent installed and I went to the market and updated them. Then unmounted my sd card and restarted my phone than mounted it again, They all came back after I did that and uninstalled and reinstalled my Go Launcher. I was VERY happy with the update after that issue was solved. Then later that evening (after I spent a few hours putting my phone back the way I like) I had another system update so I decided to get it over with. Big mistake….Now all those apps are not being read on my sd card again and wont even show that they are installed in the market place. They are still showing they are installed on my sd card they just cant open and show the droid default icon as its lil pic. Some I cant get back because they were pulled from the market. Others I just dont want to reinstall because I will lose all the info I have on them. Like my Dolphon Browser. All those Bookmarks I need will be permanently gone. So I will hold out until  find a solution to resolve my app issues. Grrrr Verizon grrrr.

    • Grrrr Verizon Grrrr

Ok so I did AGAIN what I did yesterday…..basically what None says….and I uninstalled my Go Launcher AGAIN….all my apps from my sd card are back except 2. I can totally live with that as one is a camera app I can just reinstall and the other I dont know what it is but as long as all my important data is back that I need im happy. Good luck to everyone else with the update issus.

i have these same problems and all i have to do when my phone says the message error all i have to do is turn my phone off and then on and it works but the low storage error just stays there

  • Kaiaj2242

My phone keeps saying it is low on space, and when I stop everything with Facebook then it will clear off, but only for a day or so.  Sometimes when I touch my screen it will not work.  When I am on the phone and they are on speaker and I receive a text, the phone automatically takes them off speaker.  It also will not light up whatsoever so I can put them back on speaker or access anything on my screen.  The person has to hang up because I cannot.  The battery doesn’t last very long at all, which was normal for this phone.  I cannot wait until I can get another phone.  I used to love this phone until it started messing up…again.  I have had nothing but problems with this phone…it is actually my 4th one because some were defective.  I could go on with all of the other issues with this phone.

I had the low storage and system update problems begin a few months ago.  We realized my phone still had tons of storage space, so just left it alone for a while.  I then realized mid-December that I was not receiving text messages, even though I could send them.  When I finally took it to the Verizon store, it was revealed that I was not receiving voicemail messages, either – and that I had missed a call-back for an interview, which meant I was passed over for a job.  Long story short – after two or three tries and about an hour and a half, the Verizon staff was able to resolve the problem . . . for the moment.  Now, I have started to receive the constant “system update” message again (which, if I try to apply the update, will leave me with a “your phone is rebooting” message that never resolves.  I got the “Low storage” message again the other day, and I am starting to wonder if the whole process has begun to repeat.  I was so excited to get this phone, and I am very, very frustrated with the results I’ve had.  My husband has the same phone, and his has been fine!
