Nintendo has had a difficult year as it has seen sales of its Wii console plummet despite a price cut, and has had difficulties with the 3DS. First it saw sluggish sales of the device and had to announce a major price cut that gave the console a much needed boost. There has also been talk the company is to re-launch the device with the emphasis taken away from 3D, which was its main selling point. The lack of quality games that were available for the console at launch was one of the reasons it may have suffered. With this in mind what can the Nintendo Wii U expectations be considering its mistakes with games.
Over at 3DSbuzz Jordo171 is wondering if the Wii U will make or break Nintendo as the company are promising a lot of things at once with the console. Not only are they planning to give gamers improved graphics, but also better online access, more third party support all on top of their usual innovation.
Most Nintendo fans are not bothered about graphics but if they don’t get it right with the Wii U it could be bad news for the company. The current console has seen many multi platform titles either not available or scaled down. Hopefully when the new console becomes available it won’t have the same problems.
Nintendo are not really known for their online platform either, which is a thing that is growing all the time on its rivals units. Currently there are not many online Nintendo games, and the ones that are have had issues. The Wii has had too many kids’ games and mini game collections; even though other platforms have similar titles there are more on the Wii.
Personally the thing that the Wii U has in its favor is the fact there is plenty of time for developers to get titles ready for the launch next year. This may have been similar with the 3DS, but surely Nintendo will have learnt from any mistakes. There are many who have written the console off already, which is a bit unfair. With their previous successes Nintendo deserves to be given a chance.
Are you hoping the Wii U is a big success? Or do you think it will fail?
