Call of Duty Elite: Full list of features – ‘Free’ MW3 DLC misleading gamers?

By Updated on

Earlier on this week we gave you full details on the soon to be released Hardened Edition for Modern Warfare 3, and now we have full information that has just been released for the much debated Elite service, in which Activision will be offering a premium Call of Duty experience for those willing to pay a considerable sum for it.

First things first, let’s get the price out of the way, as according to the official website, Elite will cost gamers in the US $49.99 or gamers in the UK £34.99 for one year’s subscription to the service.

Before you say that the price is too expensive, take a look at the full features list as there is actually a generous portion of content available for those willing to take the plunge and pay the extra fee which is equilavent to the cost of a full priced PS3 or Xbox 360 game.

The main features include some 20 ‘pieces’ of new MW3 DLC according to Activision, although as you may have guessed, specific details on what exact DLC this is are unknown yet. You’ll also get access to official leagues, events and operations with prizes, tons of clan options, professional tactics, Elite TV and plenty of in-game extras too which standard members won’t get.

Obviously the main focus that potential buyers will study is the 20 free pieces of DLC that you’ll get with your subscription. It’s highly unlikely that these are 20 free map packs that Activision are just dishing out – as that isn’t their style as gamers have come to learn. Instead, it’s probably going to be things like free themes, pictures, avatars, maybe some early access to weapons and perhaps one free map pack as well.

Activision has been very clever in not giving any clues as to what the DLC is, as some unsuspecting gamers may just pay the fee anyway believing that they will be getting map packs for free, especially if they are demanding the $49 or £35 from their parents. Is this slightly misleading by Activision or not in your opinion?

Overall, it’s a very attractive proposition though, and there’s a great deal of content which on paper looks like it is worth the money alone. Check out the full list of features at the official website here, and let us what you think about them. Elite features or a waste of money?

When they say, “20 pieces” I bet that means they will separate all of their DLC. Now we are getting one map at a time. As good as some of the content is, its not worth the amount they are charging. Especially since their games biggest change is 2 to 3 on the cover of the game.

If they want to establish a better reputation for their customers, I’m assuming they won’t even think of padding the 20 with avatars and themes.
They’ve got Spec Op missions, Game modes, and new maps to fill the DLC with…at least, that’s what their chart states. There’s no mention of meager pictures, avatars, or themes there….so I dunno. Hell, they’re getting an extra 18 mil(estimate of Elite sales) upfront out the the deal, I’d think they’d put a fraction of that money to good use….and themes are practically free to make.

I’m optimistic on it, I’m buying the Hardened just to see what it’s all about.

I thought they stated in the conference that there would be 4 map packs coming out this year and that buying the hardened edition will get u a free year of elite and also all four map packs?  I could be way wrong.

You do make a good point.  Even if its still an assumption.   Why would Activiation in a way get less money for DLC?  Even if the money is up front.

I think they well have to at least have the DLC be half price.   But really when the first map pack comes out and Elite people have to buy it,  there is going to be a lot of bad press.   Now maybe Activation is pre-pared for that and already has no refunds.

The problem with this idea is you have no idea how many map packs they are going to offer.  Black ops did 3-4 DLC.  All with new maps and zombie maps (except for the ones re-done from WaW).

If I new I could get all of that for 49.99 I would do it.   But in MW2  you got a map pack with three new maps and One Rehashed map.   People don’t want to pay for rehashed maps.  These should be done for free.

Because you have no idea how much the maps are, and if they are worth it.  I think most people like me well wait.   The people I see paying for this are the big clan people.

yeah they definitely said that all dlc including map packs are coming with elite.

It clearly states on the website that we get “20 pcs of dlc’s INCLUDING all of the mw3 maps”.
