AT&T HTC JetStream price analysis for contract customers

With so many tablets available from so many different US carriers it is getting to hard to spot the diamonds amongst the rough, well today we will look into the AT&T HTC JetStream ‘s pricing and tell you how much a two-year agreement will really cost you.

Let’s start by saying that you can buy the JetStream outright from AT&T for $849.99, however if you prefer you can buy it as part of a two-year agreement with AT&T for $699.99 (here) – however we were quite bemused by the lack of data plan options which AT&T gave us.

Previously AT&T has given consumers the choice between 250MB per month for $15 (monthly) or 2GB per month for $25 (monthly), however these options weren’t available to us, instead the only plan available to is the DataConnect 3GB for 4G LTE tablets which costs $35 per month for 3GB of data – this isn’t bad value for money, but we are shocked that there are no cheaper options available and we are also worried about how quickly a 4G LTE connection will eat up this cap.

We have done some very rough calculations and assuming you don’t go over your allowance you will spend $1539.99 in total if you buy the JetStream and agree the monthly data plan, to us this sounds like quite a lot, also if you go over your allowance you will then pay $0.015 per KB used, when abroad this raises to $0.0195 per KB used, as you can see overage charges can grow rapidly. Obviously if other data plans become available this $1539.99 total will drop massively, but at the moment it looks like AT&T won’t be offering alternative plans.

You can’t really compare the AT&T HTC JetStream side-by-side with the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, however you could get Verizon’s tablet offering and have 2GB of data per month for two-years for a total of roughly $1349.99 – which option would you choose? We would also love to hear from you if you managed to get the HTC JetStream on an alternative price plan.
