If you consider yourself to be a hardcore Modern Warfare 3 fan, we have some interesting news for you. During the recent Call of Duty XP 2011 event which was held in Los Angeles, Infinity Ward unveiled the official MW3 application for iOS and Android which will provide gamers with additional MW3 content available whilst they are unplugged from the main game.

Before you get really excited, we should point out that this isn’t a playable mobile version of Modern Warfare 3 yet, but rather it’s a stats based MW3 app which will allow users to customize their weapons and select their favorite loadouts in preparation for the next time they go online to play the game.

How will this work you ask? Well the app will require you to input a login, details which will sync up with your user profile on the Xbox 360, PS3 or PC versions of the game. Once you’re logged in, you’ll then be able to customize to your hearts content, and best of all – this app is going to be free to download.

Furthermore, we’re hearing details that those of you planning to sign up to Activision’s Elite service for Call of Duty titles will get ‘extra’ functionality in the Modern Warfare 3 application, although specific features on the Elite side of the app are not clear yet.

This sounds like a really neat way to improve on the overall Modern Warfare experience, and being able to sort out your weapons offline is an idea which gamers will really appreciate for sure. Hopefully we’ll be able to give you a full preview from the app as soon as we get our hands on it as we’re itching to see how the app handles and compare how the features available to free users differ to those with an elite account.

What are your thoughts on this? Will this app be an instant download for you when it’s available?
