Droid Bionic wait almost over as pricing and release revealed

By Updated on

Yesterday we had the news of images emerging of the Droid Bionic alongside a new handset, the Droid HD. Today we have news that the Droid Bionic wait is almost over as pricing and possible release date are revealed.

The handset has been delayed for months now but for those still wanting the device the wait is almost over. Android Central is reporting that an SKU is showing the Droid Bionic to be priced at $587. The SKU which you can see below has the model number XT875, but luckily also say’s Motorola Droid Bionic in the description. This is for a SIM free version of the device, and it is thought Verizon will offer the handset with a two year contract for $249.99.

Android Central have also been tipped off that the release date is going to be August 26th, which is earlier than the Verizon road-map that suggested September 8th. This will be good news for all the potential customers who have been frustrated waiting for the device since it was first revealed all those months ago.

Meanwhile TechnoBuffalo have been sent some images from the Tips and Tricks manual for the Bionic. The display is confirmed as a 4.3-inch qHD similar to the Droid Charge. It also seems that Motorola will be giving the Droid Bionic the same connectivity options as the Atrix. This will mean owners will be able to connect the handset to an optional dock to use it as a laptop. It will also support MotoPrint for wireless printing to Wi-Fi enabled printers.

There will be ZumoCast which allows for owners to access and stream files from their home computer. The 8-megapixel camera has been confirmed with LED flash and 1080p video recording. There is also a front facing camera for video chatting. The handset has three microphones located around the device, and users can use the Bionic as a wireless hotspot for up to eight devices. Update: DroidLife have a Verizon listing showing the handset priced at $299.99 for release on September 8th.

Will you still be getting the Motorola Droid Bionic considering all the other handsets which are nearing release?

There are many new high end super smart phones coming out later this year…. Bionic just came out too late. At this point, I rather wait few more months and then decide which one is the best. I waited this long, what’s a few more months at this point!!

If Bionic would have been released early this summer, it certainly would have been my choice, without a doubt, but I am not sure if it is the best choice anymore…

With the Bionic being this late to market, they should have upgraded it to compete with the phones coming out this fall or just scrapped it altogether and brought the Dinara out.  I’m waiting to see what Samsung announces on the 29th and I want to check the HTC Vigor.  I’m really hoping that Samsung brings a variant of the Celox to Verizon.  Although the Hercules on TMobile is enticing.  The only thing that can save the Bionic is that if  it will be the only dual core 4g LTE phone available for the fall.

Good thing you aren’t making decisions at Motorola. They’d be in more trouble than they already are. Putting out the Bionic now is a brilliant move if you ask me. There is not a single device that matches up with it….TODAY. Or within the next month of “speculated” release dates. So believe me, once it launches, it will sell like hotcakes. Whether you decide to buy or not. There are features the Bionic will have that the future phones you mentioned will be lacking. Then when the Vigor and GS2 (who knows at this point if there is even a version of this phone headed to Verizon) launch, Moto will have an answer for those in the Dinara and Droid HD. Plus, don’t forget about Google’s purchase of Motorola Mobility. Moto phones are sure to receive updates ahead of the rest.

What’s funny is all the people saying that they’d rather wait an extra month for something newer to come out, what do you people think, that Moto or Samsung or any of the manufacturer’s just wake up one day and say “Oh, I’m going to release a new phone today that has all of the latest bells and whistles”?
The phone’s coming out in another month or two have been in development for months now, they have the technology that was available months ago, not yesterday or today, so to say that the Bionic is already outdated is totaly ridiculous.  People always think with their emotions than logically think things through.

Nice to know there are some people who actually think before speaking. Couldn’t agree with you more Cap. I for one will be picking myself up a Bionic. My wife wants the white Incredible 2 that will be exclusive to Best Buy. Oh no! God forbid someone wants a phone with last months specs. People forget that most people could care less about how fast their webpages load. Just ask the millions of people eagerly awaiting the iPhone 5 with 3G speeds!
