We are hopefully just a few weeks away from seeing the iPhone 5 for the first time, as Apple are rumored to be holding a press event on the 7th of next month. We are now getting reports when the actual release for the handset will be and are suggesting the iPhone 5 is releasing in time for Halloween, so is it a trick or a treat?
According to an article over at 9to5 Mac sources are claiming Apple will launch the device either on October 7th or a week later on the 14th. Production of the new device is set to be going well so Apple is leaning to the earlier date. Also the company is thinking of opening up pre-orders for the device, which is different to what they did for the last big release, the iPad 2.
The pre-orders are rumored to begin around the end of September, and the dates the company is currently looking are either the 29th or 30th. Sources are claiming that the later date is the more likely, and will still fall in line with earlier reports of the September press event.
There are still rumors that suggest Apple will be releasing two new handsets. These are thought to be an all new flagship model and a cheaper alternative for consumers on more of a budget. Besides the rumored 4G LTE compatibility, many believe that the handset will be a world phone. There is talk that Apple could be including a special SIM card slot for users to insert a SIM card when traveling outside the US.
With all this speculation you have to take it with the usual pinch of salt, but one thing is sure is that Apple have promised to be going through a “major product transition” in September. Although this comment from Apple’s Tim Cook didn’t confirm it was about the iPhone 5, the chances are high.
Do you think an October release seems likely?
