Each time the PlayStation Network goes down and the status shows red for the online website, Some PS3 owners wonder if they could be getting something new after the service restores, which the most popular feature being a new XMB. We’re sure you have a wish list as long as my arm, but one feature we’d like would be an enhanced friends list with support for more people and other filters.
We have had confirmation from Sony that the PlayStation Network is scheduled for maintenance starting today at 8am Pacific Time, and if all goes to plan with this routine maintenance, the PSN service should be fully restored by 7pm. While the network is down you’ll not be able to access the Account Management and registration sections, so if you want to reset a password, you will be out of luck for a few hours.
Not all users will share the same experience as Sony report that the “majority of users will be able to play online”, although some people may have difficulties with the PlayStation Store and PSN sign-in. Some external sites need to get authentication from PSN, and you could find these not working during the downtime.
Sony recommend that their users keep updated via Twitter, and more specifically the official PlayStation Twitter. We’ll let you know when the maintenance has finished and PSN is back up. For now, feel free to share your wish list for an XMB improvement and anything else PSN. It will be interesting to see if PS3 users are shocked again if they run into problems with PSN, last month we found a lot of users wondering why they couldn’t sign in.
