A little later today we will be taking a closer look at what Sony has been saying about their upcoming PS Vita, which also looked at the release date. That is what we have found most interesting, as we know that it will be out by late 2011 for Japan and early 2012 for everywhere else. However, we have more to add on this, as some news has come to light, there seems to be the idea that the PlayStation Vita will be released on October 28, 2011.
We cannot be certain as to the validity of the rumor, but it does pose a dilemma for gamers, as this is the same day that EA releases Battlefield 3. Now the two should not clash due to the fact that one is a handheld game console, while the other a game, sorry for stating the obvious. However, where things get a little difficult is the time of year. There are three things to consider, that the date is close to Modern Warfare 3, Black Friday and the Holiday season.
So it will all come down to money, most gamers have to save up for some time for big purchasers. BF3 is not that huge of a deal in terms of the cost, around $250 is a lot to find at this time of the year for the Vita, especially as you have been saving all year to grab a bargain during Black Friday. Having said that, this rumored release date is only for the UK, as it was spotted on a Blockbuster advertisement – before the comments come flying in, yes the store still exists over in Blighty.
We know that the PS Vita is coming, and if Sony has any hope of trying to recover the costs of the recent PSN fiasco, then what better way to achieve this than by releasing a new piece of hardware in the build up to Christmas. So if you have not wrote out a list of gifts you want Santa to bring you, then we would suggest putting the Vita down right at the top of that list?
There have been a few interesting comments on IGN UK, one suggests that EA would not clash with Sony, but why wouldn’t they? What difference does releasing either on the same day or a few days apart make? The reason we say this is because there is a long list of games all releasing around the same time, not only MW3, but also Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 3 and also Star Wars: The Old Republic. One thing we do know, there will be a lot broke gamers leading up to Christmas, so do not expect too much of them when it comes round to exchanging gifts.
