We have some rather interesting news now for those of you that are thinking about purchasing a digital photo frame, as we’ve just discovered that Sony has recently introduced its new S-Frame HD Series digital photo frames. Not only do these frames – which range in frame size from 7 to 10.1-inches – enable you to view photos, they also come with HD video playback.

As noted by Siang Liang over on the vr-zone.com website, the new S-Frame HD Series digital photo frames include the flagship 10.1-inch DPF-HD1000, 8-inch DPF-HD800 and the smallest of the bunch, the 7-inch DPF-HD700. All three models claim to provide full HD video playback in a number of video formats including MPEG-1, MPEG4, AVCHD and Motion-JPEG.

Users will have the ability to view full high-definition 1920 x 1080/50p videos captured on all of the company’s compatible camcorders and cameras including the Cyber-Shot digital still cameras, Alpha digital SLR cameras and the 2011 range of Bloggie and Handycam camcorders. The S-Frame HD Series’ 2GB of internal memory can hold up to 4,000 images.

They also come with LED backlight technology and a smart orientation sensor that detects and displays images in the correct orientation. The DPF-HD700, DPF-HD800 and the DPF-HD1000 all come with a mini-USB port and two memory card slots, which supports a number of different formats including SD, SDHC, Memory Stick Duo and SDXC media cards.

The S-Frame HD Series also come with a remote control for easy navigation of both photos and videos. The digital photo frames also feature four graphical icons that provide users with quick access to the frames’ key functions: Settings, Slideshow, Index and Clock & Calendar. The DPF-HD700 will apparently be available in three different colors – red, black and white.

All models come with an auto on/off timer, which allows users to set the digital photo frame to automatically turn off when it is not in use for an extended amount of time. If on the other hand you want something a little different, then you may like the special edition DPF-C700/BI, which is made with Swarovski Elements.

The S-Frame HD Series will be available in the Asia Pacific region as from September 2011. As noted over on the news.sel.sony.com website, the prices are $169.99 for the DPF-HD1000, $139.99 for the DPF-HD800 and $119.99 for the DPF-HD700. Do you like the sound of any of these digital photo frames?
