Yesterday the official WindowsTeamBlog team revealed that the Mango build of Windows Phone 7 was complete, this means from this point forward new WP7 smartphones will come with this OS version pre-installed, whilst carriers and manufacturers will optimize this latest version build to suit their networks and smartphones respectively.
You can find out all about this update here, as pointed out by WindowsTeamBlog’s Terry Myerson some of the most exciting changes coming to the mobile OS include Internet Explorer 9 with great HTML5 support (thanks to hardware acceleration), Threads and the new email conversation view.
As previously mentioned one new feature which is coming to WP7 is dubbed “Threads”, it brings together text messages, instant messaging and Facebook chat into one conversation, which sounds great. You can see this new feature in action here. Microsoft has also said that Live Tiles will be greatly improved in Mango and should be more informative and dynamic than before. Finally Mango will bring Local Scout to WP7′s web browser, this feature is Bing-powered and helps you find things nearby such as places to eat and drink, things to see and do, places to shop and highlights, this features looks impressive and easy to use in this video.
To our knowledge all Windows Phone 7 smartphones should receive the Mango update, however to be honest with you it is completely up to manufacturers and carriers. We think that seeing as how carriers are keen to roll-out the latest Android builds they will probably show the same enthusiasm for the Mango update, we hope so anyway.
So when will we see smartphones arrive with Mango pre-installed? Well, a recent article over at Engadget introduces us to the Fujitsu Toshiba au IS12T, apparently this is the first-ever Mango smartphone and to be honest with you it looks pretty impressive. We are told that it is waterproof and it boasts some extremely impressive specifications, later today we will tell you all about this smartphone in a separate post, so stay tuned!
Hopefully we will start hearing dates as to when Mango will hit specific smartphones on specific networks soon, when we hear useful information we will keep you posted, all we know is that most devices should receive the update this fall.
