In the past finding a job was a lot tougher than what it is today, we are not saying that it is easy; it’s just that your options are far greater. Before you had to go and put yourself out there. However, since the Internet you could look for work in the comfort of your own home; now with social media you can use the likes of Facebook etc. LinkedIn is best for finding jobs as a social network, but think of the power of Google+ and Circles for finding jobs.
Social media is a powerful tool when looking for work, and having Google+ aka Plus is just another to add to the list. We should not think of this new service as just another tool, as it is so much more. Looking for work on Facebook is made tougher due to the fact that potential employers, would be able to see what you have been saying on Facebook, unless you are private – which most of you are not.
If a would-be employer were to read some of the stuff that you put on Facebook, then chances are they will just ignore your application. However, this is not the case with Google+, thanks to Circles. The idea of being able to separate your social life from business is just what social media users have been waiting for, and it took Google to make it happen.
Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are much bigger players in this area, but you have to wonder how long it will be before Google+ manages to tip the scales in their favor? You are in total control of your profile on Google+, and if you do not want a certain Circle of people to see what you have been up too, then you do not have to share it with them.
To give you an idea, I have a Friends Circle, Family, Acquaintance and Following. My profile is still very new, which you can see here. I have not had that much time to sort out these Circles in a better sort of system, but I know I need to add business in there at some stage.
So when looking for work you will need to set up Potential Employers to Circles, then you can follow these contacts and see if they are about to hire. However, this may take some time to build for two reasons; the first is because you have to be invited to Google+, and the second is because businesses have been advised to wait until there is a business version of Google+.
