Now that Apple has got their new OS X Lion and MacBook Air release out of the way, we now hope that they will put all of their effort into the release of the iPhone 5. There have already been a number of dates doing the rounds, but we thought we would take a closer look at those dates. The two that keeps popping up is September 5th and October, and they could both be correct.
We say this because the US could see the release of the new fifth-generation iPhone a whole month before the UK and everywhere else. This is what iPhone Italia is reporting, and although it seems a little strange, it is not as far fetched as you may think. We say this because the first iPhone was released in the US on June 29, 2007 and February 5, 2008 in the UK and other parts of the world.
However, they have not followed that pattern anytime since, so we have to wonder how their source came up with the idea? If this does in fact turn out to be true, the we do have a theory on this. When the last three versions of the iPhone launched in the US, they were just on one carrier, AT&T. However, this year will be very different, because they now have Verizon in the mix, and possibly T-Mobile and even Sprint.
The release of the iPhone 5 in the US would not be an easy task if Apple decided to release the new handset on all four carriers at once, so a month delay from the US release and everywhere else might be needed after all. We do hope that this does not turn out to be true, as we could see Apple shooting themselves in the foot, as customers would not be happy.
We have seen the backlash that Samsung has been getting with the delay of the Galaxy S II in the US; surly Apple would not want to come under that same negativity? Although we have to remember that Samsung has been doing their best, it’s just that they are not able to agree to a few issue with the main four US carriers.
An extra headache for wannabe Galaxy S II owners is the fact that Canadian carrier Bell customers were able to get their hands on the phone on July 14. This has not gone down well and is the kind of thing that Apple needs to avoid. However, Samsung has finally announced that the Galaxy S II, aka S2 will finally reach stateside sometime in August.
