It just keeps getting better and better for Mortal Kombat owners on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Gamers have only been treated to the inclusion of the purple ninja and third DLC character Rain, but now we have the unveiling of the fourth character to tell you about.
Speculation has been running wild as to who this could be, but we can safely say that nobody could have guessed that the character would turn out to be Freddy Krueger! Yeah, we can’t believe it either, but the Nightmare on Elm Street baddie will be tearing his way through the Mortal Kombat roster soon, and we have the debut trailer and release date details to inform you about.
Freddy Krueger will be landing on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace for download on August 9th, priced at the usual sum of $4.99 or 400 Microsoft Points – cheap as ever when you think about it. You’ll also be getting arcade mode bio and endings for him, as well as his set of unique moves and fatalities, some of which are showcased in the video below.
We still can’t quite believe that Freddy Krueger, the man himself will be featured in Mortal Kombat. We were expecting someone like Tanya or Frost, but instead Krueger joins Kratos as the next non-Mortal Kombat character to be featured in the franchise. As for his move set, we have a feeling that most of you are gonna love playing as Krueger, and his fatalities look particularly nasty as well – we’re loving the way he throws his opponent into the burner. He’ll also have nightmare teleports, projectiles from his claws and multiple launcher moves – get ready to annoy the ‘hell’ out of your opponents!
While this is obviously great news for Mortal Kombat owners that Freddy is coming, the same can hardly be said for Marvel Vs Capcom 3 fans, as many will feel that the overall package for the $40 Ultimate edition of the game is pretty disappointing. The Freddy Krueger reveal today definitely tops what we have seen from MvC3 at Comic Con, so there may be a few MvC3 owners feeling jealous over this, especially since Ultimate MVC3 doesn’t feature many fan favorites, while everyone loves Freddy Krueger, evident in Treyarch using the character in their recent Call of the Dead zombie map for Black Ops.
If you are a Mortal Kombat player, how do you feel about Freddy coming to the game? Do you welcome his addition or not, and do you believe he’ll blend in with the other characters like Kratos or not so much this time? We take our hats off to NetherRealm Studios once again though for thinking outside the box and delivering a surprise that nobody expected. We hope we get another two free skins though! – that’s not being too greedy is it?
