iPhone 5 and others: September release date heaven

By Updated on

When we think of new tech devices launching in September, one product comes to mind and that’s the iPhone 5, Apple’s aim to improve it’s phone hardware and reach to more consumers, although this phone may not be alone with hints pointing to a cheaper version for those users on a budget, or maybe it’s Apple’s stab at Google Android’s low price point.

The iPhone 5 and its rumored September release date is top of our list, but this is not the case for everyone. The month may be release heaven for other people too, although this could be for different reasons. Do you expect a phone or other gadget, which you want, to be released in September?

Google won’t stand still and let Apple eat into the Android market share with a cheaper iPhone (aka 4S), which is already being shown with rumors of the Google Nexus Prime launching around the same time, maybe September. If this does happen it will be unusual, with the previous record of Nexus One (January) and the Nexus S (December) launches. Pressure is certainly one reason Google would bring forward a release date, or even set it back in the case of Apple and the later than normal iPhone 5 release. Do you expect a release collision this September between Google and Apple?

Sticking with phones still, Twitter rumors have hinted towards an early September release for handsets running Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. We’ve seen a few tweets mentioning students could get a Mango phone early fall, which was to do with finalists in the Imagine Cup challenge. Mango shouldn’t be underestimated by Apple and Google, and while we know the phone platform is struggling, Microsoft are known to pull something magic out the bag when their back is against the wall. The improved developer tools, apps, and better software ecosystem is a step towards the result they need. The magic will come, in our opinion, from the Xbox 360/720 gaming console and better hardware integration, also improving on the offering of downloadable Xbox Live games that feature helpful phone integrations.

Obviously there is a lot more to get excited about in September in other industries, which includes Star Wars on Blu-ray and some amazing games being released. What is heaven for you when it comes to a product release this September? It looks like 2011 will go out with a bang in terms of cool product launches, only problem is finding the money for all the cool stuff.

I’m looking very forward to the new Mango-equipped Nokia handsets. I want a great OS, solid hardware (including a terrific camera) and a sexy design all in one. Considering the Samsung Galaxy S2 looks too much like an iPhone, one of the Nokia devices running Mango that are due out by the end of the year will likely be the one for me.
