3 Space Shuttle Apps for iPhone

By Marlon Votta - Jul 19, 2011

With news of the last U.S. space shuttle Atlantis departing the International Space Station ending a 12 year program of building and servicing. With the Atlantis returning to Earth, this will conclude the 30-year-old U.S. space shuttle program, with no replacement U.S. spaceships ready to fly. We thought it would be a good idea to let you in on a few space shuttle apps available for the iPhone.

F-SIM Space Shuttle is an OS Universal app available for £0.59 through AppShopper. This app is a realistic flight simulator that contains the Space Shuttle approach and landing in informative detail and accuracy. You can take command of Atlantis during the final minutes of descent and safely touchdown at Edwards Air Force Base or John F. Kennedy Space Center. Watch replays of your flight from different angles with analysis. Obtain the best landing score and add obstacles as you progress. Test yourself using wind, gusts, and turbulence or simulating system failures like a stuck speed-brake. Choose between accelerometer tilt controls or virtual analog stick for your ideal control. Fly final or full approaches and freely select one of the four possible heading-alignment-cones (HAC) and the HAC turn angle. Manually control the gear, rudder, speed brake and chute or let the autopilot maintain control while you just focus on your flying. With a fully animated 3D model of Atlantis and cockpit, you will have built in manual and tutorials to help learn more about your situation.

GoAtlantis – Space Shuttle STS-135 Mission Tracking is a free iOS Universal app that allows you to monitor and track the final space shuttle mission of Atlantis STS-135 to the International Space Station with real time tracking and pass predictions to see when and where to look. This app is available at AppShopper and is free to commemorate 30 years of the space shuttle program. With great features like 3D globe tracking view, real time tracking, map, motion and overhead tracking view you can monitor with an auto satellite update. Look at the zoom map and sky views with visible and 24 hour pass predictions. This app is easy to set up using iOS location or city list with landscape and portrait orientation. The ideal factor of this app is that you do not have to start monitoring at the time of launch time as 135 tracking and pass predictions only become valid 80 minutes after launch. GoAtlantis also may require occasional data network or WiFi access to update satellite orbital data.

The Space Shuttle is a compilation of over 2000 images from NASA’s Digital Image Collection and available at the AppShopper for £0.59. This application will relate to the dozens of NASA Space Shuttle missions during the past twenty years. In some cases, the mission number and shuttle title have been added to the image category. With many interesting facts about the images, you will not need internet connection to use this app. All of the images and information are viewable offline. The Space Shuttle is great app for all ages for those who want to learn more about astronomy and space exploration to children and teachers. Add, remove or edit images, facts, and access images you added using My Images. Use a rating system to gain easy access to you favorite images. Another great feature is the ability to shake your mobile device for a random image that is ideal for kids or testing your own knowledge and memory skill.

With iPhone Apps, you can find out more about your favorite topics including these few about Space Shuttles. Whether you are interested in space, space shuttles or you just love to play the games applications are a great way to have all the information you require at your fingertips.
