If you own the Sprint Samsung Replenish (M580) we have some great news for you, apparently a new firmware update for the smartphone is being rolled out, however there is no sign of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
To our knowledge the update should be live today, if you own this particular model your smartphone should show a notification which tells you that the update is available, when you see this simply follow the steps shown on the screen and after a short while you will be updated. If you want the process to take less time you should connect to a WiFi hotspot beforehand, also if your worried about personal data you should backup all of your contacts etc just in case.
Once you have updated you handset you will be running Android 2.2 FroYo build EF27, when compared to build ED23 quite a few bugs have been squashed and there are two other noticeable changes, now you will receive an alert before roaming is activated, also additional LED enhancements have been made.
Currently we are not sure whether this eco friendly smartphone will ever receive an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, therefore we will have to keep you posted when we hear more. To be honest with you as this handset is pretty mediocre in terms of performance hardware and multimedia capabilities we do not think that Gingerbread is overly important, that said we are sure it would be welcomed by Replenish owners.
For those of you who have not heard about the Sprint Samsung Replenish before you mustn’t just simply look at tech specs and be put off, where this smartphone shines is in terms of being environmentally friendly. You can find out all about Sprint’s offering here, it comes wrapped in completely recyclable packaging and some of the device itself has been manufactured from recyclable materials (82% we are told), therefore by buying this handset you are doing your bit for the environment!
If you buy the Replenish online from Sprint you get the handset for free if you agree a two-year deal, plans start at $69.99 and no premium data add-on is required, therefore if you want a cheap and cheerful Android device which is eco-friendly it should be considered.
