Late last month we told you all about the new G9 tablets from Archos, at the time of that post we were under the impression that prices would start at $279 for the 8-inch model and $349 for the 10-inch model, now we can confirm that prices are in fact a little higher than this, also we have an idea as to when Archos will begin shipping units.
The Archos 80 G9 (8-inch model) will ship in September and is available in three different models. If price is an issue for you there is a $299.99 model which boasts a 1.0GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor and 8GB of storage, however we would advise you to upgrade and spend $329.99 on the 16GB variant as this also boasts a similar CPU, however each core runs at 1.5GHz. There is also a 250GB variant which costs $369.99, however as this features a standard HDD we think that it may not deliver as many hours of battery life as the models which use flash storage, many think the 16GB option is a much better choice.
If 8-inches isn’t enough you can opt for the Archos 101 G9, this boasts a 10-inch display which outputs at 1280 x 800, again these tablets will begin shipping in September and there will be three variants to choose from, all of which feature dual-core processors. The cheapest model costs $369.99 and features the 1.0GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor and 8GB of storage, the next model up is the same as the last however it features 16GB of storage, this costs $399.99. Finally you can go for the top-end model which costs $469.99, this combines the dual-core 1.5GHz chip with a 250GB HDD, we can’t help but think a 64-128GB SSD would have been a better storage solution, do you agree?
No matter which model you choose you get WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR, HDMI-out, Android 3.1 Honeycomb and a front-facing camera which can capture video at 720p, when compared to competing devices we were disappointed by the fact that there is no built-in 3G connectivity, does this put you off?
You can find out more information about these models over at Archos.com, if you are really interested in one of these new G9 tablets you can leave your email address with the site for up-to-date release information, we have done this, so when we hear more we will keep you posted.
