New Macbook Air models get release date update, OS X Lion still mystery

It has been a pretty disappointing week as a whole for Apple fans. Not only did Apple’s Mac OS X Lion not turn up on the Mac App Store as previously speculated, customers still have no indication when new Macbook Air models will arrive.

The pleasing factor about both though, is that both are still very likely to drop at any moment, Apple are just making consumers wait until the last possible moment it seems.

With that in mind, you’ll be very pleased to hear that we have a solid rumor to share with you courtesy of respected site All Things Digital who has just informed everyone about the latest status update for the new Macbook Air models. According to them, the new models will be arriving towards the end of next week, and that Apple may announce the new notebooks on Thursday or Friday evening (July 21-22).

Their story now has added strength behind it, as many other tech sites are now reporting the same news, so it looks like Apple fans may finally be able to purchase their new Macbook Air notebook within a week. As for confirmed specs, nobody knows for sure yet but it does seem very likely that the new models will come equipped with Sandy Bridge processors, backlit keyboards, new Thunderbolt ports and a minimum of 128GB SSD flash memory and 4GB of RAM. Alternatively, customers will also be given the option of increasing their flash drive to 256GB SSD if they prefer, ensuring that you’ll have plenty of memory for multimedia purposes and other media.

While it’s great that Macbook Air models look set to arrive next week, there is still no confirmed reports about the highly anticipated launch of Mac OS X Lion, as the new software failed to appear on the Mac App Store this week as previously reported. However, it’s still very likely that Apple will include Lion on brand new Macbook Air models so at least it narrows the Lion release window to within a week – if the Macbook Air release update is to be believed.

What are you more excited about getting, a new Macbook Air notebook, or upgrading your existing Mac device to OS X 10.7 Lion? Obviously the cheaper option is Lion as upgrades will be available for the more than reasonable price of $29.99, or you can pick up the server version of Lion for $39.99 if you prefer. We’ll be keeping you up to date with the latest progress involving both releases as soon as we gather new intel.
