The recently released Sony Ericsson W8 has now been made available in India, and they even have it at a discounted price via Lestsbuy.com. The handset was first launched last month, and has so far been doing very well in terms of sales, which may have something to do with its original price of Rs. 15,468 being reduced to just Rs. 10,899.
At a glance you will wonder what all the fuss is about, as it does not look that much different to previous Sony Ericsson Walkman phones of its kind. Well, this is the first that comes with Android – although it is only 2.1. These Walkman phones have proved very popular in not only India but also other parts of the world in the past, but we can see this new version being embraced in a much bigger way.
The original Walkman phone was considered one of the best handsets for listening to music, but that all changed once the Apple iPhone was launched. Do not expect this new handset to hurt iPhone sales in anyway, but we have to remember that it is intended for a totally different market.
India is a growing market, which also means that there are many more consumers who are unable to buy high-end devices. The Sony Ericsson W8 would be considered as a mid-range handset – so will be targeting at a much wider audience. Having said that, we know that the real money in India will be low-end phones, and there are plenty to choose from, such as the Nokia X1-01 and C2-00, the Motorola WX288 and many more.
Some of the main features include a 3-inch screen, 3.2-megapixel camera (front-facing only) 3D games, 3G and Wi-Fi, 128MB RAM and SD Card support, as reported by MSN. You can already see that the phone is lacking in the hardware department, but it is the music support that matters most, and the W8 will not let you down.
The reason for this is its unique UI, which is a little like the one used on the popular Xperia mini range. What makes it so special for its users is how the interface can be customized, allowing for much easier access to certain features. If you are living in India and are in the market for a phone that specializes in music, mobile gaming, YouTube, and browsing the Internet, then you could do a lot worse than the Sony Ericsson W8.
