When the Nintendo first released the 3DS it came in for some criticism from certain quarters. The biggest issue was the weak lineup of launch titles for the device. Fast forward to now and better games and more features are becoming available for the console. Today we have news about the Nintendo 3DS video app, and the Netflix application is now available.

Owners of the console can get the Nintendo 3DS application direct from the eShop free of charge, and according to Scott Marley over at Daily Record will be able to watch new and exclusive 2D and 3D content with the SpotPass.

Users will get access to specially selected content that includes music videos, cartoons, comedy clips, and more. It will be automatically downloaded via the SpotPass feature once an internet connection is available. The company has teamed up with a variety of Wi-Fi providers that will allow 3DS owners to automatically get content from supported public Wi-Fi access points.

This can even be achieved when the unit is in sleep mode, and video content has selected episodes of the cartoon series Oscar’s Oasis. This has been shown on the TV across Europe and now will be available to be viewed in full 3D on the console.

There is also some exclusive 3D episodes of Magic Tricks for the Nintendo 3DS, which will entertain users with classic card tricks and optical illusions on your gaming device. Also available free from the eShop is the Netflix application. The movie streaming provider has had some bad press over the last couple of days after they changed their price plans.

This has left many users thinking of canceling their subscription to seek alternative arrangements. Once you have downloaded the free app, you just need one of the Netflix streaming subscriptions. For $7.99 3DS owners will be able to stream movies and TV shows to their console as long as they are connected to the internet.

Nintendo have also said it plans to have a library of 3D movies available for owners soon. The company already has the Netflix application available for its Wii console, and say’s there are 1.5 million subscribers already using this platform. As the 3DS gets more features becoming available and its game titles grow stronger, more gamers may be tempted to take the plunge and purchase the console.
