Just under a month ago we informed our readers that the iOS 5 beta 2 went live for those with access to the developer section of Apple, and having tested this version personally, we’re impressed again with the little improvements since the first beta. Today we can confirm that iOS 5 beta 3 went live only a few hours ago, which means iPhone iOS 5, Apple TV iOS 5, and iTunes 10.5 betas are ready for download.
As normal, you also get Xcode 4.2 preview 3 via the Dev Center. App developers will be able to take advantage of new Game Center APIs, Twitter, GLKit, Core Image, the Newsstand Kit, and iCloud Storage. Developers should be aware that iOS 5 beta should only be installed on devices dedicated for development, considering the software may have bugs. Once you upgraded your iPhone to iOS 5 or other iOS devices, you’ll be stuck with that version until you can upgrade to newer software, which is another reason the devices should be for development only.
There is hope that the enhancements in iOS 5 will help improve app compatibility, which includes Bluetooth support on Apple TV. This will create many possibilities, such as Bluetooth keyboard support to help open the world of apps to Apple TV. Would you like to play a wide range of apps on your Apple TV? If so, what ideas do you have for apps and Apple TV?
You can read the full iOS 5 release notes here, which explains both the changes and issues that relate to iOS 5.0 SDK. The release of this latest beta is good news for developers to see the improvements again, and to test their apps with the latest code but its not good for everyone. We’ve seen an increasing amount of frustration from normal iPhone users, who want to get their hands on iOS 5 and cannot because they’re not a developer. The situation is more frustrating thanks to a later than normal release date for iOS 5.
In related news, the iOS 5 beta 3 has been released for less than 24 hours but this has not stopped a report claiming there is a jailbreak for the latest software, via a Sn0wbreeze download. You can read more about this here.
