New iPhone app has Google+ circle idea, plus automation

When you compare Google + to other social networking services one of the most noticeable differences is the circles feature, this adds an extra layer of filtering when compared to other social networks and ensures that you can target certain people with shares rather than sharing everything to everyone, however choosing who goes in each circle can sometimes be a little difficult.

A new app has come to iPhone which should assist you when grouping your friends / acquaintances etc, this is called Katango is available for free via iTunes (here), it scans contacts from SMS, email and Facebook and sorts them into groups depending on previous social interaction, it will then sort them into relevant groups, such as family members, co-workers and high school friends etc.

Currently Katango allows you to quickly and easily sort contacts into groups, this means that you can share photos and messages etc with relevant groups rather than all of your contacts, as you can see the idea is very similar to how Google + in the way that it puts contacts into sections, you can find out more about this neat app here. Reviews are mixed, some say that it is great and heavily compliment its “genius algorithm”, whilst others say that it is rushed and family member distribution is way off.

We think that this could directly tie into Google + in the future, perhaps it could automatically put contacts into circles, that would be great. Katango’s developers suggests that in the future the app may “help people use their auto-created groups as viewing filters for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter stream activity”. This does sound very interesting.

At the moment there is no official Google + app for iPhone, therefore if Katango does tie into Google + in the future it will have to either communicate with the Google + website, or wait for an app to arrive.Previously we suggested that the lack of an app seriously hounded functionality and intuitivity, therefore we don’t think it will be too long before a Google + app hits the App Store.

As Mashable point out Google could bring automation to Google +, perhaps it could scan social networking websites and email accounts etc to add contacts to circles, additionally we would love to be able to scan Xbox Live friends and add them to a circle automatically.

Do you wish there was an automated way to add Google + contacts to circles?
