There has been a lot of talk about Verizon’s new tiered data plans, but now we have an interesting insight to share with you which suggests that a long awaited iPhone release on Sprint could even result in better sales on Sprint, compared to Verizon.
While current Sprint customers would just be satisfied with finally securing the iPhone on their network, a recent analysis provided by Citadel Securities analyst Shing Yin reveals that Sprint may even trump Verizon, due to Sprint being the last carrier out of the big four to offer an unlimited data option to consumers.
It may not seem like a huge advantage on paper, but in the eyes of the consumer, unlimited data plans are seen as a rarity these days and if Sprint offers such a plan to consumers, they will secure a lot of sales from users who have previously opted to go with Verizon or AT&T for the iPhone.
The key factor here, will be if Apple decide to release their upcoming iPhone 5 at the same time as Verizon and AT&T. Sprint has often been the silent strongpower in the smartphone market, but if they offer an iPhone with unlimited data, it puts them in a position to reach new heights in the industry, as Shing Yin explains below as reported from Barrons:
A Sprint iPhone “could offer an attractive proposition for more price-conscious users. It could be a relatively stronger seller than the Verizon iPhone.”
In terms of a potential release, Yin adds that the Sprint iPhone may release before Christmas this year and he sees little reason for Apple to hold off. We have often talked about the ongoing carrier wars between Verizon and AT&T in relation to the iPhone, but if Sprint enters the game, it will be interesting to see them go head-to-head with AT&T and Verizon to offer the most attractive deal and this can only be a good thing for consumers.
As a consumer looking to pick up the next iPhone later on this year, what are your thoughts on this insight? Is the attraction of an unlimited iPhone 5 data plan a deal breaker for you, or will you still side with carrier loyalty regardless of data plans?
Will Sprint become the best carrier in the US if they offer the iPhone 5? Right now, they are the only carrier to offer the one of the best Android handsets in the HTC EVO 3D, but add an iPhone 5 to that with an unlimited data plan on 4G WiMax, and that becomes a very attractive proposition indeed.
