Each year around November time gamers are treated to the latest installment of the Call of Duty franchise. Today we have news of new Modern Warfare 3 features surfacing, but is the franchise starting to feel a bit tired?
Call of Duty has had some gamers complaining in recent years after just releasing an upgraded version each year, but Jon Ireson of examiner.com thinks things could be turning round as new features of the game surface. Some of these new features is hoped to bring the game forward and satisfy gamers out there.
With the last game Black Ops and World At War gamers loved the zombie modes of both games, and in Modern Warfare 3 there is to be a Survival Mode as well. Many might look at this and think it is a cheap imitation of the Zombie mode, but it may just be something completely new.
Activision may be in a no win situation with the return of the Quick-scoping, as there are fans on both sides of the fence regarding this feature. Some of the features which were not liked in Modern Warfare 2 are set to be casted aside for the new Modern Warfare. These include the tactical nuke kill-streak, The Commando Perk, the last stand perk, and others.
Other new features include the ability to use two scopes at a time, and a re-worked kill-streak system. There has also been after release support promised which will be similar to previous games in the franchise, and with the Call of Duty Elite service leading the way.
One thing that fans of the Call of Duty franchise will want fixed is the basic net-code and hit detection problems, which have plagued the series since the beginning. But the new game will have a battle on its hands this year as Battlefield 3 is due to hit the shelves around the same time. Whether Modern Warfare 3 can repeat the success that Black Ops has had since launch remains to be seen.
The trailers for the game certainly look the part, but that is no different from big movie releases where you are only shown the best bits. Maybe this time round many gamers will hold fire and wait to see what the reviews and comments from other people are like before parting with any cash.
Do you thing the Call of Duty franchise is looking a bit tired now?
