When the Sony’s PSN website was targeted by hackers back in April, the site was taken down with millions of users unable to access the service. The service was down for around a month in most of the world, but users in Japan are still waiting for the full service to come back online. But today we have some good news as the PlayStation Network is to finally be fully restored with Japan PS Store switch on.
Sony has announced that users will finally be able to access the service this week, according to an article on thesixthaxis. After a two-and-half months of the service being down Sony have set Wednesday July 6 for the service to resume. This will mean that the PlayStation Network will finally be fully resumed for the first time since the hack, and will mean access to the Welcome Back Package.
The hack was the largest consumer data loss by a company, and brings to an end a tough time for Sony. Japanese users will once again have full access to all the functions of the PSN service. Having the PlayStaion Store and Qriocity services back online will be welcome news to the country’s many gamers.
Sony have established that hackers got past its firewalls and stole data from millions of registered accounts, which included email addresses, login and password details, and user names. Sony have so far not been able to find any evidence of users financial data being accessed, but have offered identity insurance to users as part of its Welcome Back package.
Sony had to completely rebuild the security of its websites, and began a staged switch on of the PSN in most of the world in May. The PlayStation Store was resumed at a later date for everyone except users in Japan. Users with a Japanese PSN account will be able to start downloading content from the Welcome Back Package.
If you have a PlayStation 3 and a PSP linked to your account you will be able to download a total of four games. For the PS3 you have a choice of two from the following; The Last Guy, WipEout HD, Hustler King, echochrome, and LocoRoco Cocoreccho! The PSP games are LittleBigPlanet Portable, Everybody’s Stress Buster, PATAPON 2, Yuhshanokuseninamaikida Or 2, and LocoRoco: Midnight Carnival.
Many users may have most of these games already, but most will just be glad to have the full service resumed. What of the free games are you going to download?
