Rivalry is escalating in the Smartphone market between many brands, but none come close to the battle Apple and Samsung are in. While the patent lawsuit will come first to people’s minds, this might not be the real reason these two brands are and should be going head-to-head. It’s the view of some people that Samsung has the best chance of moving Apple from their throne of top dog, which has been achieved by cool/slick products that deliver a solid experience in the most part.
From my perspective, these two brands are interesting when it comes to what we buy. Most goods like washing machines, LED TV’s and other home audio has been Samsung for our home, the brand shouts reliability to us, although we know this will not be the same for everyone. When it comes to Apple we have multiply products including iPod touch, many iPad 2’s, Apple TV, MacBook Pro’s, Air and iMac. For our home computer hardware and some other devices we pick Apple, so who would get the money if Apple crossed more into Samsung’s area of business? The jury is out on that one.
The battle of next-gen phones could see a standoff between the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, but one major problem these brands have is to convince die-hard Apple fans to move to Samsung, and vice-versa. If an iPhone owner has had every iPhone right up to the 4th generation, why should they move to the Galaxy S II Plus and skip iPhone 5?
We said in the title iPhone 5 iOS vs. Galaxy S II/S2 Plus with Android Ice Cream Sandwich for one simple reason, the hardware will not be the deciding factor for phone buyers, it’s the software that users are starting to understand is the most important factor. Maybe you’ve had a few smartphones already, and the first device you bought was for looks and since then you understand that the OS is the first thing you look at. Does this sound like you?
Ground will be won with the consumer by all the extras given once the phone is bought, can they download the apps they want and at what price? You can see ten so-called rivals to the iPhone 5 in this article, they look nice but think about what software they’re running? IBTimes look at the rivalry between the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, but agree with us when they point out the most important factor of the battle will be each company’s mobile OS.
Expect the real fight to be Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich and Apple’s iOS 5. You can read more on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich release date here.
