It’s been five long years since Hitman fans have seen a new game released and although they still won’t see a new installment until sometime next year, it looks as though the Hitman: Absolution (Hitman 5) game is definitely going to be worth the wait. Although we have heard quite a few details regarding IO Interactive’s much-anticipated stealth-action game already, it’s always nice to hear more information.

We have some good news now for those of you that were waiting to hear a little more about the upcoming game, as according to Chris Carlson over on the ripten.com website, the latest issue of Edge Magazine has provided some new game details. Fans of the series may be disappointed to hear that Agent 47’s long time voice actor will not be returning for the HItman: Absolution game, and there’s been no word on a replacement.

However, they may be pleased to know that the game will be running IO Interactive’s proprietary Glacier 2 engine, which is said to offer amazing facial animations and realtime AI editing. The Hitman: Absolution game – which as previously mentioned will be partially set in Chicago – is said to feature an optional cover system that enables the use of cover mechanics without actually being in cover.

The Hitman: Absolution game will also feature a lot of environmental weapons that are unique to each location, including a lamp cord that can be used as a garrotte. Although players will again be able to take hostages in the new game, the AI is actually smarter and won’t just begin shooting at you now. The article also notes that levels have now been divided into checkpoints, which is a first for the Hitman series.

Many of the game’s levels will be just as large and open-ended as the levels found in previous titles, but others will be tighter, more focused sandboxes. Players will find a mix of levels with some being very story-driven, while the others are way more explorative. Gamers should also note that donning a disguise doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be able to fool everyone, or bluff their way past groups of NPC’s.

However, Instinct Mode does increase Agent 47’s disguise effectiveness. You can read more about the Hitman: Absolution game via the ripten.com link. Are you looking forward to playing the next installment in the hugely popular Hitman series?
