2011 is quite an exciting year in terms of superhero movies. Not only have we seen the release of the Thor (which stars Chris Hemsworth in the leading role), Green Lantern with Ryan Reynolds and X-Men: First Class movies, but we’ve also got the likes of Captain America: The First Avenger to look forward to. If the films just aren’t enough for you however, you have always got superhero-themed video games to keep you going.
In fact, if you own an Apple iOS device, you can even get your superhero fix while on the go. Anthony Usher over on the pocketgamer.co.uk website has taken a look at some of the superhero games that are available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and comprised a list of what he thinks are 5 of the best apps. If you like anything Spider-Man related, then you’ll love the Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem game.

The Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem game does of course place users in the shoes of Spider-Man / Peter Parker, with the task being to save New York City from six of the toughest opponents including Rhino, Dr Octopus, Sandman, Venom, Electro and Green Goblin. Being Spider-Man, players will have the ability to climb walls, grind poles from building to building and swing across destroyed scenery.
Those of you that enjoyed watching the Iron Man 2 movie may want to give the Iron Man 2 game a go. Players take on the role of billionaire Tony Stark, as he battles the likes of Whiplash, Firepower, Ultimo and other enemies across various locations such as New York, Somalia and the Stark Expo. Users will have a number of different outfits to choose from including Stealth, Mark VI, Mark IV and underwater suits.
Each suit provides players with both flying and hovering capabilities, as well as a range of weaponry that they can upgrade between battles. Next up on the list is a game called The Hero, which tasks players with flying through different cities at lightning speeds while battling against a number of different enemies including henchmen, zombies and thieves. The game also features leaderboards, mini-games and a survival mode.
Thor: Son of Asgard is another great superhero game for the iPhone and iPad. Users take on the role of the Norse god of thunder Thor, whose mission is to protect the city of Asgard from siege. The final superhero game on the list is Hero Project, which tasks users with saving the world. Players will take on a number of different missions that range from overpowering evil clowns, to rescuing stranded cats.
Have you played any of the aforementioned superhero games on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad?
