On Tuesday we informed you that Valve was to offer their Team Fortress 2 online game free to play for a week, as well as news on a further update coming Thursday. Well, that day came and there was one mistake that none of us could foresee, and that is that the game will be free forever. The game developer has also been talking about how Team Fortress 2 will have endless in-game items.
This is considered to be a brave experiment by Valve, one that fans will love. This latest update has been a long time coming, and the 200 or so updates will be much appreciated. One has to wonder where Valve will get their money from, especially as the game is now free to play?

PC and Mac users will not have to pay out any money for a subscription, but the developer will have to try and earn money to pay for the game in some way. However, the money will be just a small amount, nothing like we have to pay for current console games or their DLC.
The one way where the developer will be able to earn revenue is from in-game items. Developer has learned that there will still be plenty of free in-game items, but some of them you will have to pay a small fee for, and Valve said that you would hardly notice the cost. This is a small price to pay, and we believe that fans of the game will not have an issue with this.
Some skeptics believe that the free stuff will end, but we have been assured by Valve that they will not dry up – we have to wonder how long they will keep saying that for? Team Fortress has always been a popular game, but we now think that the new version will be even more successful due to the fact that it is now free.
Valve did say that the main reason why they opted to go down the free route was so that they could get more gamers engaged online. It is too soon to tell, so maybe this needs a revisit in a few months’ times? However, the only issue then is that Modern Warfare 3 will be on the market, and it is as if the whole world comes to a complete stop.
If you really had to choose between the two would you like MW3, or the free-to-play Team Fortress 2? Now some may say that this is a pointless question, but what about those who live on a very tight budget?
