When the Apple TV was launched back in 2007 it did not get off to a great start. However, the re-launch of the smaller model has proven more of a success, but not by much Over the years we have often wondered why the company has not entered the actual TV market, well it looks as though this could be about to change? The Apple branded TV will run on iOS and rumors suggest that Samsung will supply much of the hardware.
Now there are two problems with this, the first is that the new Apple TV set will be in direct competition with the Samsung Smart TV range, and also this ongoing legal battle could also cause a few issues. With all the focus on the iPhone 5 and a new MacBook Air, Apple could send us a curveball and announce this latest device.
There could be some truth in this matter, as there has already been rumors suggesting a brand new product launch sometime in 2011. Daily Tech has learned from an unnamed source that Apple is getting ready to take the fight to Netfilx, but we also think that Google and Sony could be in trouble here.
The likes of Samsung need not worry, as they already own the TV market, and their range of Smart TVs are some of the best of their kind on the market. So much focus seems to be on Apple and how well they have done as a business, but what about Samsung. They have not been in the handset or TV market as long as their rivals, and already they are No.1 in both markets – now that’s progress.
Before we get too exited this will not be a fully fledged TV as we had hoped, but instead a television display, you know much like their computer displays that they sell on the Apple Store. Now we cannot say for certain when the new product will launch, but it could be towards the end of this year or early in 2012.
Some might suggest that Apple should not enter this market, as it is one that they could struggle with. There has to be some truth to this, as the current Apple TV is seen as a failure, which could be Steve Jobs fault. The reason we say this is because he has always maintained that this product was just a hobby, something that consumers pick up on.
If we did have to put our money wear our mouths are, then we would say that the Samsung Smart TV has no fear of Apple TV taking much of its market share.
