We are now on the second day of Wimbledon 2011, and although some might suggest that the event is a little stuffy, it is still the one event that tennis players all want to win. More often than not fans of the sport are unable to get near a TV, as they are at work etc. However, you will be pleased to know that the BBC offers Wimbledon live streaming for 2011. That’s not all; Sony has confirmed the 3D broadcasters for the live finals.
There are six broadcasters in all, which will beam the finals to 170 screens in 22 countries and regions. This will certainly make the 125th Championships very special, but we just hope that there will be no rain, as we do not want to see those rain droplets jumping out of the screens.
This is a great opportunity for Sony, as they will get to show off their 3D technology to a large audience. Whenever we watch a match we just get caught up in the moment, but just imagine how much depth and realism will now be added to the game? We just hope that it is Andy Murray that we see in the final.
The 3D broadcasts will take place in Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, UK (for obvious reasons) and the US. Broadcasts will also take place at a number of live public screenings cinemas. Again the UK will get in on the action, as well as Greece, US, China, Canada and many others.
There is to also be live screenings at local cinemas, but we do not yet have the details of this. However, as we draw closer to the finals these numbers will grow. The Theater Locator here will tell you where the screenings will be.
As for the live streaming of each match, we already know that the BBC offers this, just as they have done over the past few years. ESPN also has live streaming, but you do have to pay for the privilege. Another choice for those who live in the US is to follow the action as it happens on NBC Sports.
However, one of the best ways to keep up-to-date with all the action while you are out and about is with the official Wimbledon app for iOS devices. This is the same app from last year, but with a few updates, more on this can be found on our previous post.
