Trenched: Early review round-up delivers impressive scores

If you own an Xbox 360 and you are a fan of tower defence and third-person shooter games, then Double Fine’s upcoming Trenched game might be worth considering. The downloadable hybrid title may not be arriving on Xbox Live Arcade until tomorrow (Wednesday, June 22nd), but we are already starting to see the very first game reviews surfacing online.

We thought we would take a quick look at some of the early reviews and judging by the impressive scores, it looks as though the Trenched game – which is published by Microsoft Game Studios – is going to be a hit. The first review we read through was from Bryan Tremblay over at gamergeddon.com, who gave the Trenched game an overall score of 9.0 out of 10.

The Trenched game, which was originally announced at this year’s Game Developers Conference, takes place in an alternate reality shortly after the end of World War I. The central hub of the game is set on board a battleship, where players are able to customize their trenches, find other players for online multiplayer matches and even select the missions they want to play.

Speaking of multiplayer, Bryan says that this part of the game is the definitely the primary focus, and the method in which the Trenched game should be played. Bryan also notes that although the voice acting has been done quite well, the in-game dialogue does get a little repetitive at times. Mitch Dyer from oxmonline.com also gave the Trenched game a 9/10 rating.

What makes Trenched a great game in Mitch’s opinion is the fact that it has an expert balance of both strategy and action, and its versatile customization gives the game enormous replayability. The final review we looked at is from Randy Nelson over on the joystiq.com website. One of the most satisfying and deepest aspects of the Trenched game in Randy’s opinion is customizing your Trench.

This reviewer, who gave it an impressive 4.5 out of 5, described the multiplayer side of the Trenched game as top-notch. Randy’s overall opinion of Trenched is that it is a polished game, which has quickly become one of his favourite multiplayer experiences on Xbox Live.
