If you are a fan of the hugely popular team-based first-person shooter game Team Fortress 2, you probably already know that there is a big update on the way. We now have a bit of news that could be of interest to those that have never played Team Fortress 2 before, as the developer Valve Corporation has just made the game free-to-play for a week ahead of the upcoming update.
As Matthew Lynley over at venturebeat.com notes, Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer FPS game that enables players to team up and fight it out in huge king-of-the-hill and capture-the-flag style matches. Gamers are able to choose from one of several different classes – including Spy, Medic, Heavy and Demoman – that all fulfil different roles such as healing friendly players and carrying Intel.

Although most multiplayer FPS games feature team-based deathmatches (where the winner is the team with the most amount of kills), they don’t actually encourage a lot of team work. In Team Fortress 2 on the other hand, team work is essential. Rather than feature realistic graphics like the Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises, Team Fortress 2 is more like a cartoon that’s been brought to life.
The critically-acclaimed Team Fortress 2 game is free to download and play right through Sunday. Besides the upcoming update, the developer is also teasing the arrival of a new ‘meet the’ short video, which introduces the characters that gamers take control of in the Team Fortress 2 game. As noted by Dany Argueta from neoseeker.com, the massive update is due to arrive on Thursday, June 23rd.
The upcoming update will provide gamers with a new Payload map and some new mobster-themed gear for the Spy and the Heavy classes. The new Heavy weapons include The Eviction Notice (spiked brass knuckles that enable the Heavy to punch 50% faster), the Tomislay (a minigun with 75% faster, silent spin-up time) and The Family Business (a shotgun whose clip is 40% bigger than a standard shotgun).
Meanwhile, the Spy will receive two new weapons, The Enforcer (a pistol that does 20% more damage than a standard revolver) and The Big Earner, and The Made Man (a fancy rose that players can wear on their suit). The new Payload map you will receive is Barnblitz, which takes place primarily indoors with barns. Players can expect to finally see the ‘Meet the Medic’ video as well.
