Samsung Galaxy S2 vs. Nokia N9: Obvious Choice

By Posted 21 Jun 2011, 23:31

We all know that the smartphone industry has become very competitive, which for us the consumer is great as it means the technology included in the devices is getting better every time a new device is released. This is so the manufacturer can sell more products than the rival.

Recently we have provided you news of two elusive smartphones, the Apple iPhone 5 and the Motorola Droid Bionic, both highly anticipated and both due for release at some point this year.
We explained to you that some customers would be waiting for the release of the iPhone 5 which is expected around September rather than get the equally impressive Droid Bionic which is due even sooner. However the poll which we allowed our readers to take part in showed us that most customers would rather stick to getting the Droid, than wait for the popular iPhone’s next-generation.

Today we compare the Samsung Galaxy S2 against the Nokia N9 to establish which is the obvious choice when deciding which smartphone to buy. A good place to start is the looks of each device. They both have relatively the same design and the N9 will even come in a selection of colors; magenta cian and black while the S2 just comes in black. The size of each device doesn’t differ much either, though one is slightly thinner with the S2 measuring in at 125.3mm x 66.1mm and is just 8.5mm thick, while the N9 measures in slightly smaller at 116.5mm x 61.2mm and is a thicker 12.1mm.

The S2 also has the bigger display which is 4.3” while the N9’s screen is just 3.9” not much smaller though the N9 is slightly heavier. They each feature an 8 MP camera. However the inside, arguably the most important parts of the devices, is where they differ most. The S2 is powered by a Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor while the N9 runs on a 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU.

The Samsung device also runs Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread OS and the Nokia runs MeeGo v1.2 Harmattan OS. The S2 also will keep you talking for up to 18 hours before the battery is drained while the N9’s will die after 11 hours of talk time. With the Nokia N9 due out soon which will device will you decide to get? Most of the specs are listed here with enough to establish that the choice is obvious, is it for you?

“Samsung Galaxy S2 vs. Nokia N9: Obvious Choice”

Yes; the Nokia N9 for me as it runs the OS I want, and not the one I don’t.

    That simple.

Same here, I having been waiting for a Meego phone for 1 year, I always belive my first smartphone should be Linux community friendly.

    N9 for me thx

The obvious choice? N9! Because Meego with single core can do better than Android and its virtual machine on a dual core! Because Meego is really open source, has a real multitasking. N9 has a really better camera. N9 doesn’t have to wait too long for Meego updates, while Samsung releases updates months after Google. That’s the obvious choice… if the number 3 is bigger than 2, it doesn’t mean 3 is better than 2 ;)
