We had assumed that Apple would only offer a minor update, but we are now hearing that there could be a major update for the iPhone 5 when it gets released later this year. If we are to believe what we hear, then it could have a very similar design to the 2010 MacBook Air, which is also due for a new design.
Let us hope that there is some truth to this, as being offered a minor update will not please any current iPhone owner. Most rumors suggest that the design was to stay the same, and that just a CPU and camera upgrade would be on the cards. To get a closer look at the picture above just visit This Is My Next, who has a much larger image.
You can clearly see that the new iPhone could have a teardrop design, but not as exaggerated as their mockup. Having said that, we do hope that they go with this rather than a curved glass design, as it will feel uncomfortable when in your pants pocket. This latest news was first reported back in January, but seems to have been lost due to some of the latest rumors of just a minor update.
If we were to think about it Apple would be stupid not to redesign the iPhone, as the smartphone market will not wait and could leave Apple behind; that have not worked this hard to fall over at the last hurdle. You will also remember that a larger screen was spoken about, this would also go well with that new design.
This new teardrop design has been seen, but we have to warn you that these could just be prototypes of the iPhone 6, or might have even been shelved. Now we know that sales of the 3GS were very healthy, even though it looked like the 3G. However, this will not cut it, especially as the likes of HTC and Samsung has been upping the ante.
There has to be some truth in these rumors, as BGR has also confirmed this to be true. They were informed by a reliable source, although they do fail to mention who that source was. Now we are uncertain if Apple will announce the new iPhone during their September event, which is usually for the iPod or if they will have a separate event earlier or later? What design do you think Apple will go with?
